Tennis at Allegheny

Claire says that I should post something more on here. Well, here goes. No one said that this has to be worthwhile, though....

Let's see, yesterday a bunch of us here at FB decided to play tennis. So around 6:45 we met in the the parking garage and drove to Meadville. This sounds rather conventional and reasonable thus far. Indeed it was; the problem was that we didn't know where we were going to play. The Meadville Athletic Center (or whatever that place is called) is being renovated, and there's a park somewhere with two mediocre courts, which we decided to avoid in favor of more and better courts. Rumor had it that Allegheny College possessed what we wanted, and that FB people had even been known to play there. Unfortunately, none of us had been to this fabled location; neither did we know how to get there.
Little daunted [for the most part], we approached the matter in a very deliberate and methodical manner: we went directly to the main part of the college campus, and drove around randomly for a while. Eventually we agreed that these excellent efforts had been applied for a sufficient period of time, and resorted to the second-best option: we asked for directions.
This second attempt was also executed in an efficient and orderly manner. As soon as the vehicles had pulled up to a certain promising-looking building, Mark and I catapulted violently from our sedentary locations and sprinted across the manicured landscape, carefully avoiding the concrete walkway and several inconveniently placed shrubs. Within the edifice, we quickly located a cafe where several Allegheny students were lounging, and soon acquired the necessary information.
Our route to the tennis courts was also carefully optimized: we drove about six blocks in the opposite direction in order to get to a street that we could have reached by cutting directly across from the area where the cafe is located [I take complete credit for this one].
We did finally locate the courts, all twelve of them, way down behind the Robinson Field complex. And yes, we did actually play tennis, and had a great time. At least I did. We concluded our time in Meadville with a trip to McDonald's for ice cream, and then got back to FB in time to sing in the stairwell, which is what those less fortunate had elected to do instead.

Tonight we played several games on the lawn out back, south of the main building. Ten Sticks (like Prisoner's Base, but with sticks to capture) was followed by dodgeball, Mother May I, Red Light/Green Light, and other such activities. I had a great time but felt very out of shape.

Well, tomorrow afternoon we're planning to go to Presque Isle for the official summer term outing. I'm looking forward to it, even though I was there only two weeks ago.
